Contract Types (adapted from Seniorsource.com)

Type A: Lifecare Agreement

  • Lifetime access to assisted living and skilled care
  • No increase in the monthly service fee when care is provided
  • Requires residents to pay a higher fee initially with the assumption that they will utilize an increased level of health care in the future

Type B: Modified Agreement

  • Lifetime access to assisted living and skilled care on a fee-for-service basis
  • The monthly service fee increases as levels of care increase
  • Residents may receive a discounted rate for the care and a specified number of days of long term nursing care at no additional cost
Type C: Fee For Service Agreement (Rental)
  • Residents may initially pay a lower monthly service fee than with other types of contracts
  • Residents are responsible for all costs of additional health care if they are needed
  • No resident discount, benefits or any free long term care days

Age Restricted Communities

Communities that require at least one resident be typically at least age 55 and restricts anyone under 19 from being a permanent resident. Age restrictions may vary by community.

Continuing Care

Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC) are residential campuses that provide a continuum of care - from independent living, assisted living to skilled nursing care, all in one location.

Alzheimer's/Dementia Care

Alzheimer's Care provides specialized care and housing tailored to the special needs of individuals with this disease and other related disorders.
